5 Meals to Cook on Your Camping Stove
Camping is one of the most amazing experiences that anyone can ever try and enjoy. Yet, no one can deny the necessity of having a hot meal ready at the end or in the middle of the journey. This is why in today’s article, we will suggest 5 meals that you can cook on your camping stove. So, let’s dive into it give that tummy some pleasure!
1. Potato and Egg Scramble
Personally, this is one of my favorite meals ever, both indoors and outdoors. The reason why this meal comes at the top of the list is because it is so easy to make, fast to cook, and so satisfactory to the mouth.
Potato and egg scramble is one of those meals that you can cook in every camping occasion and in every season. The ingredients are easy to pack, available in almost every place, and most importantly, they do not require any sort of refrigerator or conditioning although it is essential to keep the eggs in a cool place.
To prepare this delicious meal, you will need:
- Diced medium potatoes
- Eggs, stirred
- Chopped onion (optional)
- Chopped pepper (optional)
- Tomatoes ‘sauce’ (optional)
For every four campers, you are going to need: two diced medium potatoes, eight eggs, one chopped onion, two chopped peppers, two tablespoons butter, and a couple of tomatoes depending on how concentrated you want your sauce to be.
One of the good things about this particular meal is that it can be cooked in one pan, and cooking it has never been so easy:
First, put one tablespoon of butter into your cast iron pan and put some heat. When the butter starts melting, spread it around.
Then, put the potatoes, onions, and pepper. It is preferable to chop the pepper and the onions and put the potato in chunks. Make sure to cook these until the potato becomes tender are the other elements are nicely cooked. It usually takes around 20 minutes, yet it is preferable to check whether they’re well cooked or not since it depends on your fire.
Now, come the eggs. Before putting the eggs, make sure to add another tablespoon of butter. When the butter melts, add the eggs and cook for over 4 minutes. To guarantee a good cooking experience, use a lid or a tin foil when cooking.
2. Chicken and Vegetable Stew
Making this delicious meal is easy. And with the right combination and a bit of training, this meal can become one of your favorites and you can even turn it into your camping signature meal.
For this camping meal, you will need:
- Olive oil or vegetable oil
- Fennel bulb (optional)
- Chicken thigh or breast
- Waxy potatoes
Start by heating up the pan and add 2 tablespoons of olive or vegetable oil. Make sure to add the 1 chopped onion, 2 crushed garlic cloves, cook for 10 minutes,
And stir regularly until they start turning caramelized. -but don’t heat the pan too much, otherwise they will burn-
Then, add 2 sliced carrots, 300 g of squashed pumpkin, and 1 large sliced fennel bulb. After putting them altogether, add around 800 grams of boneless chicken thighs or breasts and stir well until they combine together and the chicken starts to brown.
After that, add half ‘½’ a cup of water and add around 12 quartered waxy potatoes. Make sure to season well with salt and black pepper, but make sure not to make it too salty. Cook for around 30 minutes, until the potatoes become tender, and there you go! Your meal is ready!
3. One-pot Sweet Potato Pasta
One-pot meals are amazing. Not only they consume less ingredients, are easy to make, and save you the effort of cleaning multiple pots, (trust me, cleaning is the worst part) but they also save you a lot of time since you will simply keep adding ingredients until the meal is ready. And the one-pot sweet potato pasta is no exception.
For this meal, you will need:
- Olive Oil
- Garlic Cloves
- Sticky Celery
- Brown Onion
- Sweet Potato
- Small Pasta Shapes
- Parmesan and Parsley.
As usual, heat the pot and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, then, add 1 finely chopped brown onion and 2 finely chopped garlic cloves. Make sure to stir and cook until the onion becomes soft.
After that, add around 400g of diced tomatoes, 1 sweet potato, and around 5 liters of hot water. Make sure to cover the pot and cook for around 30 minutes until the sweet potatoes become tender.
Then, add from ½ to one cup of small past shapes according to your own preference and cook for 10 minutes until the pasta is well cooked and ready to be served.
Once all this is done, season using parsley and parmesans, and you one-pot meals is ready to be served.
4. Chicken Noodle Soup
Noodles are one of the best camping meals that you can ever think of. Not only they are easy and fast to prepare, but they also are ‘serve-hot’ meals which can really come in handy during winter or high-altitude camping where temperature plays a major role.
When it comes to chicken noodle soups, no one can deny how easy it is to make, and how tasty it can get, especially if you are a professional noodle maker. And even if you’re not, the following recipe will make you a real noodle chef in no time.
For this particular camping meal, you will need:
- Shredded Chicken
- Chicken Noodle Soup Sachets
- 2-Minute Noodles
- Mixed Vegetables
- Chopped Parsley
Making this meal is so easy since some of the core ingredients are already prepared. But if you ever consider to take your noodle experience to the next level, you can prepare your noodle pasta and the chicken noodle soup at home. But this is a completely different article.
This recipe is extremely easy. Start by pouring 4 liters of water into your cooking pot. Then, add from 3 – 4 chicken breast – it is preferable to get the quantity of a whole chicken for a customized experience-.
After that, add 90g (often 2 sachets of 45g) of chicken noodle soup, 2 chopped onions, 2 crushed garlic cloves, and two packs of noodles -around 170g- but you can always add according to your own taste.
Then, add 1kg of tinned mixed vegetables and simmer for 2 minutes. Don’t forget to stir in the parsley, and enjoy the delicious meal!
P.S: in contrast to other recipes, this one is pretty flexible. So, don’t feel attached or restricted by any ingredient. Just make sure to use the principle ingredients and customize you one-pot noodle according to your own preferences and according to the number of people involved.
5. Chickpea, Chorizo, and Spinach Stew
And the best for the last, this camping meal will surely be in all your upcoming camping plans from the first try. Although its preparation is a bit harder than the other, but once you get a hand of it, this meal will become one of your favorites in no time.
For this meal, you will need this set of ingredients:
- Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- Celery Stick
- Thyme Sprigs
- Bay Leaves
- Hot Smoked Paprika
- Cans Chickpeas
- Sherry Vinegar
- Spinach Leaves
Start by heating 3 – 4 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil in your pan -preferably a large one-. Then, put 1 chopped onion in the pan and fry until it softens.
After that, add 1 finely diced carrot, and 1 finely diced celery stick, few thyme sprigs, and 2 bay leaves. Keep stirring for few minutes while cooking and don’t forget to season before that.
Add 2 finely chopped garlic cloves, 200g of chorizo, and ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 teaspoon of hot smoked paprika. Stir well and cook until the chorizo gets crispy and releases its oil.
Once you have completed the previous steps, stir around 820g of rinsed and drained cans chickpeas. Add a couple of sherry vinegar and 150ml of water and simmer for a couple minutes until the chickpeas have heated up.
Add 400g of washed a drained spinach leaves. Season for the taste, and your meal is ready to be served.
